Downtown Toronto Security Guards provide a highly visible, advanced level of security service with strong customer service at a variety of posts in a professional, competent and courteous manner. The primary responsibility of guards is to ensure a safe and secure environment for the protection of people, property and assets through continuous patrol, monitoring and routine and emergency response.

Security Guards are required to comply with all company and client policies, procedures and directives. Security guards must instill a strong sense of safety and security amongst all stakeholders and the public while providing a high level of professionalism and customer service in all interactions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing Security Guard Services to a downtown Toronto location through the operation of various security systems and patrolling, including responding to routine, emergency and security situations, maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times.
  • Monitoring and patrolling all areas. Observing, investigating and acting on possible breaches of security, fire and safety hazards, illegal entry, theft and malfunction or interruption of utilities.
  • Act as an ambassador of the client site by providing customer service, responding to public inquiries and performing guard tours within the facility. Assist in the movement of visitors and staff.
  • Informing the designated authorities in the event of security, fire or health emergencies. Activating fire alarm and safety systems and assisting in evacuation procedures. Escorting designated authorities, police, fire, ambulance personnel to emergency locations.
  • Screening unauthorized persons/staff and escorts or physically removing persons found trespassing, engaging in criminal acts or breaching the policies.
  • Recording and maintaining log books of daily activities, unusual or special occurrences and issuance of equipment to staff.
  • Receiving/recording complaints, conducting investigations, preparing incident reports, and conducting follow up investigations.
  • Providing security for protocol functions and special events.
  • Performing duties such as open-up and lock-down procedures and security/life safety equipment inspections and testing
  • Provide a high level of customer service to internal and external clients
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the client contact or ASP 

MANDATORY POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

All Full Time, Part Time and Backfill/Casual Security Guards assigned to the site must have 2 years experience in a customer service role within the security industry. The below are preferred levels of experience.

  • A graduate from a recognized community college in the field of security administration or customer service;
  • A minimum of two (2) years proven experience in a related security function with duties similar to this position
  • Must be available for all shifts

 Successful completion of all required training/certification courses, including the initial and annual recurrent Guard Training/Certification is a pre-requisite for employment;

  • Basic Security Guard Training (Pre-Deployment)
  • A.S.P. Orientation Training (Pre-Deployment)
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification (Pre-Deployment)
  • AODA (Pre-Deployment)
  • Health & Safety & WHMIS Training (Pre-Deployment)
  • Customer Service Training (within 6 months of Deployment)

 In addition, Security Guards must possess all the following additional experience and key qualifications:

  • Licenced by the Province of Ontario as a registered Security Guard and must maintain the licence for the duration of employment;
  • Experience in modern corporate building security/law enforcement, security systems and their functions;
  • Strong working knowledge of various security hardware, software, keying and systems;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, Codes and legislation including the Criminal Code, the Trespass to Property Act, the Fire Code and WHMIS;
  • Ability to operate state of the art security equipment and possess strong computer skills
  • Ability to react to and resolve emergency and crisis situations in a proper manner;
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing and maintaining clear, concise, and legible security reports;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making, situational assessment and communication skills;
  • Possess strong written and verbal skills in English;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patrol procedures, evaluations of deficiencies and security standards;
  • Demonstrated ability in following security standards, work plans, and policies and procedures;
