Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Generalist is responsible for leadership support and guidance on a wide range of HR related matters, across all divisions of A.S.P.   With a consultative approach, the HR Generalist will support the business in the areas of workplace investigations, performance management and discipline guidance, policy implementation, low risk terminations, full cycle recruitment of salary positions, HR Administration, and WSIB/RTW of salaried employees. The HR Generalist works collaboratively with managers and staff at all levels across the organization, and maintains and fosters positive union/company relations.  This role is required to promote and execute HR programs and initiatives ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies, with operational success and positive employee impact in mind.   


  • Provides day-to-day HR guidance, supports and implements HR policies, procedures and programs and acts as a first point of contact in employee relation matters.
  • Provides guidance on matters pertaining to effective leadership, employee engagement and retention, employee relations, attendance management, disability management, performance management and employee discipline, low risk terminations, harassment concerns and effective conflict resolution.
  • Conducts investigations related to violence and harassment in the workplace.  Ensures a procedurally fair process is executed in a timely manner.
  • Conducts full cycle recruitment of salaried positions, including but not limited to: coordination of job postings, screening resumes, interviews, participating in the selection of candidates and preparing employment offers.
  • Participated in union meetings/discussions where required.
  • Manages WSIB claims for all salaried employees, including regular communication with the companys WSIB consultant, case managers, and employees as required.  Submits WSIB reports and tracks incidents.  Manages and participates in the return to work process, ensuring employees transition safely into their pre-injury jobs.
  • Supports the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains reports, tracking key HR metrics and analytics
  • Maintains a pulse on the level of satisfaction and engagement of employees, and participates in employee engagement initiatives and programs
  • Serves as a point of contact for HR related queries concerning policies and collective agreement interpretation
  • Travel to other locations is required.  Frequency will vary depending on the needs of the business and tasks requiring travel, ie. Investigations, meetings, etc
  • Assists all aspects of Health & Safety as it relates to employees.
  • Ensures ISO 9001: 2008 procedures are followed
  • Performs a reasonable amount of overtime as required.
  • Ensures queries are responded to from the HR email inbox
  • Maintains an excellent knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for unionized operations and ensures that scheduling is done in accordance with the provisions contained therein.
  • Other duties as assigned.  


  • 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a Generalist capacity.
  • CHRP designation is preferred.
  • Union experience is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and administration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, analytic, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues ensuring compliance with laws and policies.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, and be a self-starter.
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of confidentiality.
  • Computer literacy is required, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and MS Outlook email.
  • Must be able to operate windows based computer systems.
  • Must have proficient typing skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times
  • Has conflict resolution skills and is able to use them effectively.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in the performance of all duties.
  • Displays versatility in dealings with clients and the public.

  • Knowledgeable of Human Resources processes and policies.
  • Knowledgeable of Federal and Provincial labour laws
  • Knowledgeable of Bill 168, Bill 132, and how to conduct procedurally fair workplace investigations, relating to violence and harassment in the workplace.
  • General knowledge on maintenance of company growth and profit objectives.
