POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, Terminal Shift Leads are responsible for the effective "Day of" oversight, supervision, direction, coordination and support of the front-line security guard team at Calgary International Airport. The Shift Lead is a "working lead" 24/7 mobile shift position and as such will be trained and qualified in all Terminal Service security positions, duties and responsibilities. Shift Leads are responsible for employee performance management/monitoring, on-the-job training/coaching and schedule adjustments, maintaining time and attendance records and for ensuring compliance with company and client policies and procedures as well as government regulations.  This is attained through oversight of team's completion of daily work plan, adjusting priorities and resource allocations to meet demand and ensuring the team's adherence to established performance standards and protocols. 

The Terminal Lead is the primary operational day-to-day point of contact for the Calgary Airport Authority and as such is responsible for coordinating "day of" security activities with the Airport Authority to review issues, challenges and changing requirements and to ensure an appropriate response to emerging operational issues, events or activities.  Additionally, the primary responsibility of the Security Lead is to proactively patrol the airport Terminal and Airside to detect any adversary or suspicious persons or activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Serves as the "Day of" focal point for communicating, coordinating activities and resolving operational problems/challenges or issues as they occur in collaboration with Airport Authority representative(s);
  • Attends and participates in any required client Operational Briefings/Debriefings and other security meetings to coordinate activities and address specific needs/issues;
  • Oversight of assigned team's daily work plan, adjusting priorities and resource allocations to meet demand, including relief and back-up;
  • Monitors, trains, coaches and guides team to ensure adherence to established performance standards and protocols; Inspects all posts/positions a minimum of twice per shift;
  • Conducts new hire OJT Training as well as random in-field OJT training/testing modules;
  • Provides team leadership and direction in emergencies and assists/supports the airport authority, police and emergency personnel and stakeholder groups in times of crisis;
  • Investigates all problems, complaints, incidents, events and deficiencies;
  • Prepares daily Inspection Reports, Operational Summary Reports and Incident/Occurrence Reports;
  • Maintains effective control of all company/client issued inventory, equipment and supplies;
  • Supports and assists the Operations Manager Participating in recruitment, training and employee performance assessment initiatives and in resolving scheduling conflicts as well as in arranging for additional security resources in response to increased security measures and/or emergency/IRRPO events;
  • Conducts frequent patrols of all public areas including front of Pre-Board Screening (PBS) areas, connections entrance, curbside areas and check-in areas displaying a proactive approach to safety & security and enhanced visibility for passengers and employees;
  • Assists with crowd control & passenger flow - deploying security personnel as and where required;
  • Assist the TOS/IOC as required, such as during Life Safety System alarms, power failures, Access Control failures, etc.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the company and/or client;

 

As Shift Lead is a "working lead" position, Leads are also responsible for performing and must be qualified in all security Access Control and Patrol guard position duties.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Successful completion of a minimum high school education or possess equivalent work-related experience, however preference may be given to candidates with Post Secondary education;
  • Minimum of two (2) years aerodrome security experience.
  • Experience in a Supervisory or Operational Lead role, preferably in an airport or similar environment;

Qualifications

All applicants for this position must be:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • A Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
  • Have a clear Criminal Record
  • Licenced by the Province of Alberta as a registered Security Guard;
  • Must have a valid Province of Alberta Drivers licence with no restrictions and a clean driver abstract;
  • Able to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Security Clearance and a Calgary Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC);
  • Must obtain a Calgary Airport AVOP within 6 weeks of commencement of duty;
  • Must hold a certificate demonstrating completion in a recognized Customer Service Training Program;
  • Physically capable of performing all duties as set out in Job/Position Description
  • Able to work a rotating 24/7 shift schedule, including nights weekends and holidays;
  • Successful completion of (initial and annual recurrent) SOC Training is a pre-requisite for employment;

Recruitment Assets:

  • Airport security and/or operations experience is highly desirable;
  • Possession of a valid Transportation Security Clearance and an Airport RAIC (Restricted Access Identification Card) and/or a Calgary Airport AVOP is a definite asset for this position;
  • Security Industry Accreditation (CPP, PSP, etc.)
  • Certificate in Customer Service Training.
