After 3 months

As a Canine Security Specialist you will be responsible for providing Canine Explosives Detection searches and sweeps of various locations and venues including office buildings, arenas and stadiums, conference centres, airport facilities, vehicles, aircraft, and many other locations as may be required.  While deployed as a Canine Handler, you will be responsible for maintaining a high level of training and readiness to respond to suspicious packages, unattended vehicles, facility sweeps, or other situations where the services of explosives detection canines are required by our clients.

ASP Canine teams operate in many different environments and as a member of the team you will be required to work indoors and outdoors under all different conditions.  Work hours can be unpredictable, and often last minute canine services are requested by our clients in response to a threat or incident, and team members are expected to be flexible and willing to respond.  ASP Canine handlers are assigned their working dogs, and are responsible for the 24 hour housing, care, well-being of their assigned dogs.  In addition to the 24 hour care of the working dogs, handlers are responsible for their daily maintenance training on explosives detection, and associated record keeping to comply with Federal Regulations.


Minimum Requirements

-        Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living five (5) or more years in Canada.

-        Highschool diploma or equivalent.

-        Basic First-Aid and CPR

-        Must possess a valid Ontario Drivers Licence

-        Must possess a valid Security Guard Licence

-        Must complete the internally facilitated Basic Explosives Detection Canine Handlers Course.

-        Be willing to provide Criminal Record check upon request.


Preferred Qualities

-        Previous law enforcement or military experience an asset but not required.

-        Previous professional canine handling experience an asset but not required.

-        A stable and solid comfort level of working with and around dogs of various sizes and breeds with no notable apprehension when handling them. 

-        Good inter-personal skills and communication skills.

-        Good independence, self-reliance and responsibility.

-        Stable home life conditions for the housing and well being of the assigned working dogs.
